It took them about an hour to reach a road, which they followed in the shadow of the trees, not wanting to risk hitchhiking. One never knew who could see them. Domenico sped up when he saw square-shaped lights in the distance. They were already out of the woods, and it seemed that the bald area ahead was sparsely sprinkled with houses. Domenico was visibly agitated, and it could have been due to the two protein bars he had, but he was actually jogging whenever they got close to different properties. Seth kept up with him, but noticed that Dom limped every now and then. The wound in his leg from two months ago was still giving him grief.
“So what’s the plan, Dom? You wanna break into someone’s garage?” Seth asked as they approached a modest, slightly unkept house with an old pickup truck in the front yard.
